Embracing the Isolation

These are scary, frustrating times made worse by the fact that the less human interaction we have, the safer we will be. Humans are pack animals and thank goodness we can isolate as families. But even us introverts crave social interaction and casual contact from time to time.

I worry about a future, past this immediate threat, in which hugging is permanently shunned and affection is discouraged; where even passing too closely in a grocery aisle is cause for offense and a muffled cough in a public space raises suspicion.

For now I am enthusiastically embracing social distancing. We all must isolate to stop the transmission of Covid-19. But I have a desperate hope for our society, for our civilization that one day we will be able to embrace each other again.
